World Team Championships (12th-17th November)

Mixed emotions from last week at the women’s world team event. We had a good pool and got of to a good solid start beating South Korea and Mexico 3-0. Then we played Wales and then Ireland in the quarter finals winning them again 3-0. We were drawn to play Malaysia in the semi-finals and we knew on paper that this could be a close one potentially going down to the final match. It did and I had the task of closing out the match for us beating Low Wee Wern 3-1. Tight match and it’s such a different feeling playing in a team event. People will say it’s just another match but when you go on knowing that you have to win otherwise your team is out adds to the pressure!

Going into the final vs Egypt we knew that every match could potentially go either way! We had lost to Egypt in the final in 2008 and so we were all desperately keen to win this time round! Unfortunately we didn’t! Every match went to five games and we lost 2-1. Was neck and neck all the way but just wasn’t to be for us unfortunately! Tough to take but all credit to the Egyptians who played well to win the title again!

Two years now till the next one in Canada and no one beats us four times in a row!!!!

Been home for a few days and back into training! Had National league last night where we got a good 5-0 win and takes us to top of the table at the half way mark! Off on Friday to Hong Kong for a gold event so not much time at home before we are off again!

Hong Kong is one of my favourite places and tournaments so am looking forward to it!! Follow the event on live streaming, should be a good one!!

ESR Invitational Doubles Competition

29th-31st March 2010
Sportscity, Manchester

‘Just back from the doubles competition in manchester.. Came 3rd in the Womens doubles and 2nd in the mixed.  It was a tough few days with lots of matches, I had four on Tuesday! It was great to gain more experience on the doubles court, playing all the other teams and seeing how everyone plays and really
getting to grips with the tactics. I think it has been a very important part in the build up to the Commonwealth Games and by the end everyone was looking very comfortable on the court which was great’     – Alison
