US Open 2012 – 4th to 12th October

In Philadelphia for the US Open and this is my last tournament having to qualify! A little milestone that. First round in qualifying I beat Misaki Kobayashi 3-0 and that was a good start to the event.
Then I played a talented Egyptian Nour el Tayeb and won 3-2. She played well and I was a bit In and out mentally which you can’t afford to be at this level. Was pleased to play a good solid 5th game though and push through the match.

Onto the main round and was drawn to play Natalie Grinham, we had played a few weeks ago In Malaysia and I won a close 3-1. This time it was a tight 3-2. Again my focus wasn’t to great and Nat was playing some good squash and made it tough for me. I was pleased to win the match and it meant a repeat of my match last week with Nicol in the quarter finals.

This time she was the better player on the day. She made three errors in the whole match and that’s a pretty good statistic. I didn’t play badly but I wasn’t at the level you need to be to beat Nicol. The third was close and I actually felt that I was just starting to get a bit of joy out there, but it was just a little too late really.

All in all a good trip, semis in Brooklyn beating Nicol on the way being the highlight of the trip. Second tournament in Philadelphia was a different week, didn’t feel like I played that well particularly all week and think it was a case of literally dragging myself though the rounds. Then coming up against a woman on a mission (Nicol) in the quarters so all In all I can’t really complain.

Definitely some things to work on and something that if i get sorted it will really help me move forward. Looking forward to getting home now and having a few days rest to really freshen up physically and more importantly mentally.

Next tournament is a gold event to Shanghai leaving on Sunday 21st October. So i will start preparing for that when I feel I have really freshened up and am ready and raring to go again!

Home sweet home… Can’t wait!!
